Bring a snack to share – coffee and water are provided

Omaha Artist Inc Member and Newsletter Chair, Artist Linda Guynn will teach painting on glass cabochons with acrylic pours and show how to put a cabochon into a setting. This procedure is very messy – do not wear your fancy clothes! Please contact Linda either by calling or texting 402-618-0347 and advising your name and your intention of attending the class so she has enough jewelry making materials for the class.

When asked about herself, Linda told us:

I have loved art all my life. My mother encouraged me to experience all kinds of artist crafts. Sewing was one as well as embroidery, knitting, crochet, and needle work on fabric. I loved my high school art classes. In 1999, I started being a clown which helped me through a depression. It was very therapeutic and I soon learned I loved face painting. Kids loved it, too! Children’s face painting gave me experience and encouragement to learn more and more. People seemed to enjoy the clown in me. Finally, I became brave enough to begin painting on canvas. Around 2010 I painted a few landscapes. These were donated to our church for a fundraiser. Then, during a scenic drive in 2014, I noticed an old barn. It really caught my attention! I HAD to paint it and I have been painting ever since!

As a board member of Omaha Artists Inc since 2016, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our five children, and our many grandchildren. My purpose for my art is to hopefully share a bit of peacefulness and serenity with others which I have found in a world of chaos.

Program Speaker: Paula Wallace

  • Do YOU ever entertain, fanaticize, or dream of writing or illustrating a book?
  • Has anyone EVER mentioned you should?

Well…as you know, February is the month for giving gifts of LOVE. So, give YOURSELF this gift by attending our February luncheon. Visit with other artists, enjoy tasty food, and meet Paula Wallace, our February speaker. Paula is a working artist and author who maintains an Omaha based Hot Shops art studio. She claims art was woven into her DNA and nurtured with crayons and love. She studied formally at Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.

Much of her work found its genesis in literature, theater, music, or the spiritual. While most of her wart is figurative with an emphasis on the human face, her range of styles may be from representational to whimsical. Often she employs an uncluttered or almost austere background, permitting the viewer to be wholly engaged with the subject of the painting or print, concentrating on the intimacy of that encounter, the imperative of a glance or gesture.

Paula will share her story of success as a working artist and published author. Visit her inspiring website for further details of Ms. Wallace paulawallacefineart.com

You’re going to LOVE this program. Please…don’t miss it!!!

Emmett Egr IMG 2626

Tell us about you?

I am recently retired from the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District. I served for 40 years as Information and Education Coordinator for the NRD. Before that, I produced and directed educational television programs and films for KYNE-TV at UNO.

Tell us about your history with Omaha Artists Inc?

I have been a member of Omaha Artists for about two years. I joined following the urging of my wife, Barbara Egr, who seems to think that I have some talent with photography. I have enjoyed making new friends in the club and having an opportunity to display my photography at OAI shows. I help set up the microphone and speaker system for the luncheon meetings.

How did you get involved in art and what is your favorite medium?

My duties at the NRD included a fair amount of photo journalism. Today, I am shifting gears toward a more artful form of photography.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy fishing. We have a boat and enjoy taking the boat to various lakes in Nebraska and South Dakota. Fishing for walleye is my favorite. I also enjoy doing home improvements and landscaping our yard.

What are your travel experiences?

Barbara and I love to travel. We have been to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and to many of our nearby western states – Colorado, Wyoming and Montana are favorites.

What are you known for?

Landscape and wildlife photography are my favorites. I try to capture lots of images when I travel outside of Nebraska. However, Nebraska is also a beautiful state and many beautiful photos are taken here. I follow many photography-oriented Facebook pages with Nebraska thru the Lense and Natural Nebraska among my favorites.

What skills would you like to learn?

In some ways I am relatively new to art photography and have much to learn about the capabilities of my mirrorless camera. Photoshop is my post-processing software choice. However, I am a believer in the “Less is Best” approach to enhancing images.

Katie Johnson

Happy New Year! This month is one of packing away the decorations, getting out the 2020 calendars, dusting off the exercise bike and writing a new story of hopes and dreams in your journal. What are your hopes, goals and resolutions for the new year? A New Year’s resolution is said to go in one year and out the other. Don’t make a spectacle of yourself (play-on-words): let’s dream big and make it happen!

Not long ago, when one asked what you would be doing, you could easily have answered, “I don’t have 2020 vision.” Now with the new year, we all have 2020 vision! Omaha Artists Inc. has a bright and dynamic calendar of events planned. Take a look at our roster and see the Fun Shops, Programs and Art Shows we have lined up for 2020!

With hopes and dreams, there are plans and deadlines. In our future, there are scholarship applications to be completed, recipes to be submitted and a gala to be planned! The clock is ticking as we step into an exciting New Year! Join in the fun and keep the good times rolling…

Katie Johnson, President

“Life is like a camera. FOCUS on what’s important. CAPTURE the good times. DEVELOP from the negatives and, if things don’t work out, take another SHOT!” --- Ziad K. Abdeinour
