President's Message: More or Less

Katie Johnson President March v2

Dr. Seuss wrote "Green Eggs and Ham" on a bet that he could not write a book with 50 words or less! Does this article have more or less? I believe there is more to this story! This is the last President's Message until the September Newsletter. What do you have planned for the next few months, more or less?

Do you have plans for more time for yourself or with family & friends, exercising, more positivity, sleeping, reading, playing a musical instrument, art projects or classes, camping, traveling, practicing or exploring new techniques whether it be sewing, photography, cooking or art – so much more to consider!

Should we make a plan to do less? Less procrastinating, less complaining, less talk (more action), less unhealthy habits both physically, mentally and emotionally, less over-thinking, less speaking without thinking, less 'stuff' in our homes-garages-closets-drawers, less negative thoughts, less couch potato life-style. There is again so much less to consider!

Do you remember the greater-than symbol denoting the inequality between two values? Is it greater to have more or less when living our best life: what should we add or subtract? Perhaps the secret of feeling secure with what we have and to stay motivated is to be grateful and focus on the positive. A Tibetan Prophet wrote a simple equation well worth considering, "the secret to living well and longer: eat half, walk double, laugh triple and love without measure".

I thank you for your vote of confidence to lead OAI as President for yet another year: I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I wish to thank the phenomenal OAI Board, Chairpersons and Committees for all you do to make this a successful and growing organization. I thank you the members for your participation and willingness to promote the appreciation and development of fine art in and around the Omaha Metro area – you are all making a difference in our community.

Wanting more and not settling for less,
Katie Johnson
Omaha Artists Inc. President
