Winter art Show -"Something Old, Something New"

At Jewish Community Center, 333 South 132nd St, Omaha

Registration: Tuesday, January 31, 11–1 pm
Reception: Sunday, February 5, 2-4 pm
Take Down: Sunday, February 26, 2-4 p.m.

The theme refers to entering something that you painted or created a while ago. It can even have been entered in one of our shows in the past, but not if it won an award. Also please enter a new one too! The size restrictions will apply again for this show. And they do not have to be of the same subject matter—they can be a completely different style. Which will make it fun to see how our style and progress as artists have changed.

Sizes allowed are – measured on OUTSIDE of frame edges:

  • 3 pieces if 11"x14" or smaller
  • 2 pieces if 30"x30" or smaller

Winter art Show – "Something Old, Something New"

Jewish Community Center – February, 2017 (actual dates in future newsletter)

This show's theme allows you to enter one piece of art that has been previously entered in one of our shows, and can be something you created long ago. That is the "something old" part. "Something new" means something within the last two years, as is the standard for all of our art shows. So hopefully everyone will have one of each.

  • 3 pieces if 11x14 or smaller
  • 2 pieces if 30x30 or smaller
  • 1 piece if larger than 30x30 Maximum size 40x40

Call Sharon Clawson at 402-672-7536 if you have questions.

Our art show at the Hot Shops Art Center with the theme: “Once Upon a Time...Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes” was judged by Larry Andrews, who spent a long time deciding the winners. Thank you to my art show committee – Pat Lontor, Debie Plog, Jo Anne Nielsen, Linda Glantz and Marilyn Beig who were able to help with registration and hanging of the show, and a few extra hands who came to the rescue when we needed help –my niece and Linda Glantz’s daughter, Cari Glantz and our own Sara Sumnick Wamsat.

Bio for Judge of 2015 Fall Small Image Show

Richard Markoff grew up in Alliance, graduating from Alliance High School before attending Doane College and Chadron State College where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He taught high school art for 37 years in Rocky Ford, Colorado, McCook and at Omaha Northwest. Markoff was a founding member of the Gallery 13 in Omaha in 1985 and has been an active member of the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery in Omaha’s Old Market for many years serving as a board member and on the Hanging Committee and Membership Committee. Additionally he is an associate member of the Burkholder Project in Lincoln.

"I consider myself a series painter. Having taught school for 37 years, I have had to use different styles of painting in my teaching; therefore I have continued to do so through the years. I paint ten to fifteen paintings per series from surrealism to modern abstract utilizing acrylic and mixed media. I am a stern advocate of art elements and all my judging reflects that belief."

    Spring Show 2016

Hot Shops in April. Theme: “Mother Goose”

I think this will be a really fun theme. There are so many Mother Goose rhymes to choose from, and so many great images to illustrate! But please do not copy any of the illustrations from the book! Size restrictions will be a little different to allow for the mid-size paintings to be a little larger. 3 pieces allowed if 11x14 or smaller, 2 pieces 30x30 or smaller, and 1 piece if larger than 30x30, but nothing larger than 40x40.
