I work as a graphic web designer and have lived in Omaha all my life. I've had a desire to be an artist ever since I can remember. Drawing was a source of fun when I was little and a welcome escape as a teenager. After high school, I took courses and jobs that led me to a career in design, and I've happily followed the great opportunities that have followed. However, my fine art fell to the wayside as my life became very full with family and with rewarding, but demanding, work. I mourned this at times, but I promised myself that I would get back to it once my girls were older.
The time came when my girls became women and I was ready to keep my promise. After twenty years, I finally unpacked my art supplies and began drawing again. Tapping into the creative flow was easy once I gave myself permission to see myself as an artist again.
I primarily work with watercolor but enjoy using colored pencils as well. My interest in photography is an offshoot of my original art interests. I love to capture what delights my eye or triggers an emotion, and those photos often become the basis of my artwork.
I have been blessed with supportive family and friends who have encouraged and challenged me to share my work with others. Joining Omaha Artists, Inc. in 2012 was a big step in that process. Participating in the group art shows and receiving feedback on my work has helped me continue growing as an artist.
