Omaha Artist, Inc. was organized to promote the appreciation and development of fine art in and around the Omaha Metro area. Membership is composed of active artists ranging from successful professionals to hobbyists. The group was organized in February 1946 with 30 members and over the years has shown great progress, both in size and scope of activities.
A luncheon is usually held the fourth Wednesday of each month followed by a business meeting. An art related program is then presented. Omaha Artists, Inc. does not meet in July, August or December. At the discretion of the Board, an evening dinner meeting is held with an art related guest speaker.
Monthly Fun Shops
Held with highly qualified instructors, Fun Shops are offered on a variety of subjects, (such as drawing, watercolor, acrylics, etc). Fun Shops meet on the third Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $4.00 for members, $5.00 for non-members. Artists are responsible for bringing their own supplies, as designated in the newsletter by the instructor of the workshop.
There are three regularly scheduled annual art shows.
- The Fall All Member Show
- The Winter All Member Show
- The Spring All Member Show
The dates and places of art shows are published in September each year to allow members time to prepare their works. Suitable location and excellent judges are carefully selected for these events.
Periodically special club shows are held as opportunities for members to sell their art.
Omaha Artist volunteers began teaching classes to the English as a Second Language classes in March of 2002. We introduce art basics; we give what we call an "art experience" and time to be creative.
Community Art Reach
In 2002, under the leadership of Sara Wamsat, Omaha Artists, Inc. began their “Community Art Reach” program which involved donating art supplies to such places as the Hope Center and the Ronald McDonald House. These supplies are collected by the membership each year at the November meeting.
Information on all meetings, programs, art shows, Fun Shops, opportunities and other activities are always printed in the Omaha Artists Newsletter which members receive monthly, except July, August and December.
OmahaArtistsInc.com was launched in 2005 to provide information for members and the public regarding the benefits, events, and programs of the group. The site exposes members’ artwork to the public through personal gallery pages and by highlighting winning show entries. Member participation is included in the yearly dues.
Facebook.com/OmahaArtistsInc is the group’s social media channel for informing the public about upcoming events and general information.
Facebook.com/groups/OAI.members is a member’s only page that provides a space for the group to socialize online. Members must be invited by a current member or a page administrator to see the page.
Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC)
Membership in the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC) is also available through Omaha Artists, Inc. The fee is $12.00 per year. This membership enables artists to participate in the statewide art competition that is held yearly in conjunction with the annual ANAC Conference.
