Maxine Simmons Burton was born and raised on the island of Bermuda. It was there that she developed her eye for color and an appreciation for natural beauty. From the performing to the visual arts, Maxine had no memory in her life of any time that has not included some for of creative expression.
While creating her artwork, Maxine experiences a peace and calmness which she translates through textured brush strokes and soothing colors. Quiet places, tender moments, and cuddly creatures are often her inspiration. Maxine hopes that the expression of these special moments and feelings captured on canvas are as healing to the viewer as the creation process was for her. She finds fulfillment in knowing that her spirit has touched the lives of others through her artwork.
Maxine has received awards in both national and international competitions for her paintings. Using acrylics, pastels, paper, glass beads, and more, her portfolio is comprised of illustrations, portraits, landscapes, murals, paper cast bowls, and jewelry.
People are the spectrum from which Maxine works. She provides individuals of all ages with encouragement, teaching them how to channel their creative gifts through varius art mediums. From elementary schools and college settings, to grief support groups and art camps, Maxine is striving to cultivate art in the hearts of others.
