I consider art to be my third career. I have always had a love and desire to be an artist. I remember responding to that well-known ad, "If you can draw this..." Well my Mother was not too happy when the salesman came to our door (I was in fifth grade) Oops! forgot to mention it to her. Anyway my first career and second did not allow much time for art. I raised two Sons: who have now blessed me with four brilliant Grandchildren. In between time I obtained a M.S. Degree from UNO and served almost thirty years in the criminal justice system. This included the Omaha Police Department, Sarpy/Douglas County Court Referral Programs and Nebraska State Probation as a line-officer and administration.
The most pleasure I receive from my art is the process. I enjoy exploring different medias; such as, acrylic, watercolor, encaustic and other forms of mixed media. Encaustic is my favorite. I discovered this around 2002 on a trip to London. It was very popular there for many years, but I found that this was not the case in the U.S. Information and materials were very had to find; back then I had to order most of my supplies from England and had to teach myself by experimenting. Of course now it has grown to be a well known form of art (loving that).
When I first started exploring art, a Friend, Wilma Degroff referred me to Omaha Artists. I have met many with like interest and formed long-term friendships. I have learned much and enjoyed the shows, the funshops and various other activities. Omaha Artists is a great organization made up of many Great Artists.
