Up to 4 Judges Recognition Awards, with no monetary prize
Joy Long Award for Exellence in Light and Atmosphere
This is a $50.00 cash prize graciously provided by the family of Joy Long after Joy passed away in 2014. The award is to go to an artist for "excellence in expressing light and atmosphere in the artist's chosen medium." Joy was a member of Omaha Artists Inc. for many, many years and was a talented artist winning awards in various media, including oil and watercolor. Her wonderful effects with focus on “light and atmosphere” made her artwork stand out. We are very thankful to Roy Long and his family for this ongoing memorial.
Special club shows may or may not be juried, may or may not have entry fees according to the situation and space available. No awards are given for these shows generally and are simply opportunities for members to sell their art.
Annual Club Shows
There are three regularly scheduled annual shows:
The Fall All Member Show
The Winter All Member Show
The Spring All Member Show
All shows (except special club shows) have ribbons or monetary awards or prizes. There is one judge for each show who receives a $100.00 judging fee. Traveling show ribbons are used at each show, which remain the property of Omaha Artists Inc. The show winners receive their own ribbons at the art show receptions.
The Small Image Show
Size guidelines for the Small Image Show: Measurements of height and width of the image (not including matting or framing) added together may not exceed 18 inches. Example: 8x10 image, 8 + 10 = 18. 6x12 image: 6 + 12 = 18. Again, measurements are for image only. Small Image Shows are to be scheduled as needed, depending on availability of space at the venue.
It is best to type up your artist's introduction in a text editing program such as Notepad, Text Edit or Word. Have this text file and a photo file of yourself in a location you can easily browse to (i.e. Desktop or Pictures folder).
The submenu for Galleries will be on the right. Click on the Manage Gallery link. If you don't see this link you are not logged in or your gallery page has not been set up yet.
Adding Artist Statement and Profile Picture
You should see your gallery listed on the left, similar to the example below, with your name in place of ‘Your Name’ . Click on your name to access the artist introduction page.
On the page that opens, scroll down to the Description box. Do not change or add content to any of the boxes before description.
Open your artist's introduction text file that you saved on your hard drive. Copy the text and come back to your artist's introduction page . Paste the text into the Description input box.
Some text editing programs will copy over formatting information that needs to be stripped out. To do this, select all the text you just pasted in and click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like an eraser. This will not delete your text.
If you do not have a photo of yourself to add, you can skip ahead to the last step of Saving your artist’s description in this section. Otherwise continue with the next step.
Add a space above your text by clicking in front of the text and hitting your Return key. Click inside the empty space so it places the cursor at the beginning of the empty line.
To add your photo, click on the icon that looks like a small photo in the toolbar on top of the text box (see below) to launch the Image Manager.
Under the File Browser section of the Image Manager you will see a list of folders. Click on the folder titled photos then the folder profiles indented below it. Click on the Upload icon above and to the right side of the File Browser section.
A window will open. You can open your windows explorer window that contains your image file and drag it on top of this window or Browse to your image on your hard drive.
Your photo file name will show up in the box. Click on the Upload button.
Check that the file name and preview are what you wanted. If it is:
Correct, click on the file name so it shows in the box labeled URL under Properties, and click on the Insert button below the photo.
Not correct, click on the X button to delete and click on the Upload button to select the correct file.
Now you should see your photo in the Description box. Check to see if your text is showing below your photo and not next to it. If the text is not below the photo, click in between your photo and the text and hit Return.
Click and drag to select your photo so it is highlighted as below.
Click on the Styles menu
Select Gallery: Artist’s Profile Photo.
Your description should look similar to the example below. If your photo is not on the right with text on the left, delete:
Scroll to the top of the page and click Save. This will bring you back to your gallery listing.
Adding Gallery Images and Descriptions
To upload your gallery images, click on Manage Images(0) in the gallery listing.
The Image Manager will launch. You can choose to drag your image files to the window or click on the Add Files button to browse to your files on your hard drive.
After adding your files, you should see them listed in the window. If you see files that you did not intend to add, click on the red circle to the right of the file name to delete it from the list of files to upload. Click on the Start Upload button.
You will see a progress bar as each image is uploaded. Once the upload is done, you will see your images listed in the area below the upload box.
To add the description for an image, click on the Edit link to the right of the image.
In the Description field, type in the information for the image in the following order:
Apply the text styles to the title and to the rest of the text.
Place your text insertion point ahead of your title text, click on Styles in the toolbar and select Gallery: Title.
Select the remaining text and choose Gallery: Description from the Styles menu.
Click on Save And Next button to save the description for the image and to open the description area of the next image. Repeat the same steps for each image.
When using the Save & Close button, you will be brought back to the view of all your images after you have saved the last image description. You will also be brought to this view if you choose Save at any point.
You can change the order of your images by either:
using the small arrows to the far right of each image to move it into the desired order or
change the numbers in the boxes to the right of the arrows to set the order. When finished changing the numbers, save the new order by clicking on the small icon to the right of the column heading Ordering.
Publish Your Gallery
Once you have your images all set up, you need to Publish your gallery so it can be seen.
Click on the Back button to return to your gallery listing.
